Unitary Patent Update

The number of states that have ratified the UPC (Unitary Patent Court) agreement recently reached nine, with Finland the latest signatory state to have deposited its ratification instrument. (As a reminder, the Unitary Patent System will only come into effect once the thirteenth instrument of ratification has been deposited, including Germany, the United Kingdom and France).

Turning to the UK, a draft Statutory Instrument (SI) for the ratification of the UPC agreement was recently published by the UK Government, which may be viewed here.

As has been the case for some years it is still a case of watching this space. It does, however, seem that the long running saga of the Unitary patent is drawing to a (positive) conclusion. As things develop we will post further updates.
