Cuts to UK registered design fees proposed

The UK Government recently launched a consultation for changes to UK registered designs.

The consultation is aimed at encouraging designers to seek protection through the UK national registration system rather than through the European Union design system by significantly reducing filing and renewal fees.

The changes are most beneficial when multiple applications (covering a number of designs in a single application) are considered. For example, the proposed filing fee for a registered design application containing 100 designs is only £250 (whereas under the current fee regime such an application would cost £4,020).
